Port Perry Β· Ontario Β· Pop: lovely
Small Town.
Big Spuds.
We grow our potatoes around Port Perry, the best little town on Lake Scugog. Here's a love letter to it, plus an important political announcement.
Why Port Perry Rules
ποΈ
Heart of Scugog
Port Perry is the biggest community in the Township of Scugog, right on the west shore of Lake Scugog in Durham Region.
π©
Named for Peter Perry
The town takes its name from Peter Perry, one of its founders. We assume he also enjoyed potatoes. History is silent on this.
π§±
That Queen Street Look
The downtown's handsome brick storefronts date back to the late 1800s, after fires forced the town to rebuild. Now it's all patios and ice cream.
π
A Shallow, Mighty Lake
Lake Scugog is famously shallow and grew to its current size after a dam went in downstream in the 1800s. Great for bass, great for ice huts.
ποΈ
Scugog Island
Just over the causeway: the island, home of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.
π‘
Fair Season
The Port Perry Fair is a late-summer tradition: animals, rides, pies, and people who take giant vegetables very seriously. In 2026 our spuds took home five first-place ribbons!

Clarke Β· Mayor
(eventually)
Paid for by the Committee to Elect a Potato Guy
Clarke for Mayor
βA potato in every pot.β
Election date: TBD. He's not running yet. But he will. One day. Port Perry's future mayor is out here hilling potatoes and practising his ribbon-cutting technique.
The Platform
- π₯A potato in every pot. And a second, smaller potato for later.
- π¦Replace one traffic light on Queen Street with a very polite potato.
- π§Ice-fishing huts get Wi-Fi. Fish do not get Wi-Fi. Fair is fair.
- πAnnual Spud Fest at Palmer Park, featuring the Potato Rave (bring earplugs).
- π¦Formal peace talks with the raccoons. Nobody's snacks are safe until then.
- ποΈRename the town hall 'Town Hall (and Potatoes)'. Pending council approval.
